Our Mission

To build community relationships through a course of instruction to familiarize residents with the men & women sworn to your service, and the jobs we do to keep your families and our community safe.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is offering its Citizen’s Academy beginning September 6, 2018 and is limited to 24 participants. Classes will meet on Thursdays for ten consecutive weeks at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office located at 421 E. Spring Street in Cookeville, TN. The Academy is free and open to all Putnam County residents 21 years of age or older. Classes meet for three hours from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Each attendee will have the option to participate in a ride-along with deputies on the street and a voluntary firearms range day.

The Citizen’s Academy presents an overview of a professional law enforcement agency striving to serve a dynamic, growing community. Through it, you will gain an appreciation for the complex, challenging issues facing deputies today, while having the opportunity to present your own concerns and questions regarding the direction of public safety in Putnam County.

Our deputies and guest instructors present each session and interact with participants on a very approachable level. Students network with senior staff and members of almost every facet of the Sheriff’s Office. Your participation and interaction are an integral part of helping us all get to know one another better.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Live or work in Putnam County, TN, and be 18 years of age or older.
  • No felony convictions.
